Castanesa Valley

1 journey of 5 to 6 hours of effective walking

This is one of the most relevant pastures in the area. Just 20 years ago huge flocks of thousands of sheep would come to this valley from the plain of Lleida and Aragón, and would stay here all summer long eating the thin grass specific of this mountain. Nowadays, you can watch spread groups of horses and cattle. To sum up, this is one of the landscapes that still in our days show us signs of its rich transhumant past.

Menada, Bosia and Nestuy Valleys

1 journey of 4 to 5 hours of effective walking

Around the impressive peaks of Maladeta, the valleys of Bosia and Menada receive every year herds of cattle from the surrounding villages in the valley of Barravés. Some flocks of sheep can also be seen from the nearby villages, which will gradually go up to the pastures of Anglios -at more than 2500 metres above the sea level-, already within the Natural Park of Posets-Maladeta. The mountain of Nestuy has a set of huts anciently used as a summer camp to perform more comfortably the hard tasks of shepherding and reaping grass for the livestock in the villages.
